Finnish horror gallery and reality

 In Finland, there is an ongoing special operation by the left-wing to overthrow the right-wing government that was appointed a few weeks ago. As a result, one minister has resigned, and another has been targeted over online writings from fifteen years ago, which have been claimed to be written by her.

The minister in question, Riikka Purra of the Finns Party, has neither confirmed nor denied writing the mentioned texts. Instead, it has emerged that among the texts cited is at least one taken out of context, which gives a false impression in the way it has been presented. It does not involve violent fantasies towards children, as it has been suggested, but rather is a response to a proposal to ban the right to carry firearms for all men. The alleged pseudonymous author, now claimed to be the current minister, has opposed the idea with the expression that has been brought up.

It is also interesting to note that the minister in question, who is under public scrutiny, was the candidate who received the highest number of votes in the national parliamentary elections in the spring. And I don't believe there was a single person among those who voted for her who was unaware of her critical stance on immigration.

Therefore, the orchestrated campaign must be seen as an undemocratic attempt to bypass the election results and overthrow the government enjoying the support of the majority in the parliament, as well as the minister who has garnered exceptional popularity. This is happening in a country where even ministers with a history of participating in armed rebellion have been seen, and earlier this year, a person convicted of a crime also held a ministerial position.

As such, the ongoing discussion has followed the familiar pattern. The left-wing opposition promotes their own propaganda, and the press supports it. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (National Coalition Party), on the other hand, briefly stated that the government parties are committed to an equal, equitable, and safe society where no one should live in fear.

Just before writing this blog post, President Sauli Niinistö stated, "It would be wise for the Finnish government to take a clear zero-tolerance stance against racism. Racism and potential issues related to immigration are two completely separate matters."

This is an interesting comment considering that the Finnish government has already outlined in its program that "Finland adheres to human rights and other international agreements, obligations of EU legislation, and the principles of the rule of law in its immigration policy. Finland participates in multilateral international cooperation."

Furthermore, it has pointed out - acknowledging the facts - that "the government recognizes the increasing youth and gang crime as a serious problem. The government is committed to implementing the necessary measures to actively combat and reduce youth and gang crime. Resolving the issue requires a multidisciplinary approach. The entire society, starting from families and parental support in upbringing, as well as efforts against marginalization and discrimination, up to integration and immigration policies, will be involved in the process of change."

In other words, the government program states that it adheres to human rights principles (which definitely do not include racism) but also acknowledges the internal security problems caused by Finnish immigration policy. The latter, along with the indifference of previous governments and the media towards it, is the actual reason why the Finns Party has become the second most popular party in Finland. Riikka Purra, who is currently targeted in the campaign, emerged as the vote queen in the last elections.

In practice, the Finnish government will continue to lead the country as long as the Members of Parliament belonging to the participating parties support it. However, the Swedish People's Party may pose a problem in this regard, as their representatives have previously betrayed their coalition partners. 

However, so far, they have only demanded Purra to disassociate herself from all forms of racism. That was despite the fact, that the minister already Tweeted that "At the same time, it is evident that both the Finns Party and this government operate in accordance with all laws, do not endorse any extremist movements, condemn all totalitarian ideologies, violent activities, and discrimination."

It remains to be seen whether Swedish People´s Party will betray again their coalition partners. If this happens, it will leave a long-lasting stigma between it and other right-wing parties.

Measurements of arctic temperatures and sea ice area agree with each other

Antti Lipponen of the Finnish Meteorological Institute tweeted on the arctic temperature, which - according to him - was 4.9℃ warmer than the March average between 1951-1980. He also told that it was fourth highest since March 1950, and showed the following figure.

That accords relatively well with the area of the arctic sea ice  (which should be small when the temperature has been high) in March between years 1987-2022, but differs in its early part of the data, although the area of the ice is sixth smallest since 1987. This NSIDC-data based figure is presented below.

 

I do not criticize the data presented by Lipponen or NSIDC, but want to point out that the trend line of both arctic temperature and arctic sea ice - based only on the latest years - could also be interpreted differently. Namely, the trend line based on more than a decade of the data presented by Lipponen and on nine last years of the sea ice data would point towards recent arctic cooling instead of continuous warming. 

Based on this we should ask, whether the current climate models unanimously forecasting continuous warming in the northernmost parts of the planet should be re-evaluated and better fitted to the data? Or at least, to be more cautious with our interpretations as long as the trend visible in the figures above - and similar trends in data sets for other months or whole years - will continue in becoming years.

Political rats and useful idiots

The leading Finnish newspaper - Helsingin Sanomat - wrote in its editorial about members of right-wing popular parties in Europe by calling them "rats" escaping from their close relationship with president Vladimir Putin. That was noted by Jussi Halla-aho, the former chair of the True Finns, which is considered as the right-wing populist party of Finland, but which has never followed the Russian leaders. 

Halla-aho was wondering in his Twitter message chain, whether the newspaper - known as politically slightly liberal left - would also call many former leading politicians in Finland as "rats" due to their extreme closeness with Russians. He mentioned among others the former President Tarja Halonen and former Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen as well as the former Speaker of the Parliament of Finland and current Member of the Europarliament Eero Heinäluoma. 

Tarja Halonen has for decades had close and warm relationships with Vladimir Putin, and she insisted Finland to sign the Ottawa treaty, which eliminated anti-personnel landmines from the defense forces of Finland despite the ca. 1300 km common border with Russia. She also worked actively in 1990´s to leave Finland out of NATO when the Baltic countries joined it, and considered for very long that Russia would be on its way to a decent democracy.  

Paavo Lipponen has - since his retirement - made a lot of money as a consultant for a company that builds up the Nord Stream gas pipelines from Russia to Central Europe. Eero Heinäluoma - still in February 10th this year - acted as an advocate of Putin by explaining that deployment of defensive weapons in Russia's neighboring countries is a threat to Russia, and therefore western attitudes are a solid justification for its aggressive behavior against Ukraine. 

Halla-aho also noted that he or his party has no problem in calling European right-wing politicians (with close relationships to Putins administration) as "useful idots". He asked - obviously rhetorically - whether also the social democratic Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, would call Gerhard Schröder, Tarja Halonen, Paavo Lipponen or  Eero Heinäluoma - all social democrats - as "useful idiots".

Overall, Halla-aho pointed out that the difference between right-wing populists and social democrats is in their effect on European policy. The populists are in political marginal with no influence on the European decisions whereas social democrats are in the center of decision making - and therefore much more able to promote Russian interests in EU. Therefore their relationships, instead of powerless populists, to Russian administration should be in the focus of the press.

I think Halla-aho has a clear point here.

Twitter account of an remarkable politician was locked

The Twitter account of the leader of the True Finns - a political party with ca. 10% support among Finnish voters - was locked. The leader, Dr. Jussi Halla-aho, noted that "when discussing about affecting the elections, it may not be necessary to search the threats from as far as Russia".

The reason for the locking is unknown, but there is no doubt that its purpose was to reduce the importance of social media in election campaigns. Thus, it was a trial to narrow freedom of political speech. And this happened in a situation, where the rape cases in Oulu and Helsinki had inevitably shown that Halla-aho and his supporters have been right on the harmfulness of the Finnish immigration policy - and the leaders of all other notable parties been naive and completely wrong.

I hope that the aim of the persons behind the locking of Halla-aho´s twitter accounts was not to block democracy. And I also hope, that the people entitled to vote understand, that narrowing Halla-aho´s freedom of speech confirms that the tragicomic outcomes of other politicians and authorities regarding the immigration policy are only propaganda motivated by the becoming parliamentary elections next April. And whose purpose is - for the reasons I do not understand - to continue our lack of readiness to prevent the next migration wave from developing countries. 

I mean, a migration wave which will come with certainty. That is because of the population explosion and its consequences in those societies. As well as the generous services provided by Finland even to those, who do not have a right to stay in our country.
